The mysterious landscape of the Karst is bound to stir up imagination of its people about how it was created.
One of the legends says that after God had finished with the creation of the world, he was left with a big pile of stones and rocks. Because he wanted to get rid of them, he decided to place them in a big bag and hurl it into the Adriatic Sea. He did so indeed, but as the bag was falling towards the sea, the Devil - envious of God and people - caught the bag and cut it open. The stones and the rocks started falling all over the land. Only a small percentage of them ended up in the Adriatic Sea. And thus the rocky karst landscape was created.
