A very active Slovenian minority lives in the Italian part of the Karst. Nearly 30,000 Slovenes live in this region and they have exceptionally well organised cultural, educational and sports activities. Throughout the karst territory schools also teach in the Slovene language. All of this helps not only to preserve the Slovenian culture, but also to develop it. Consequently, Slovenian customs, rituals, culture and gastronomy, which define this beautiful country, are being preserved.
