VILLAGE

As a rule, karst villages are situated on hard rock at the edge of the most fertile land, behind which spread meadows and pastures with debris karren. In these dense, clustered settlements, the more developed farmhouses have buildings built around a closed courtyard, which protects them from the harsh Bora wind. The streets are narrow, so as to preserve as much fertile land behind the houses as possible.

Without a doubt, the karst village is a result of shrewd creativity, folk wisdom, knowledge of local weather conditions and doing the best one can with the materials one has.
